Individualised, Structured Support

All students at the IMPACT Centre receive an Individualised Education Plan (IEP), developed through a comprehensive assessment process.

Programmes are designed to support progress across multiple areas - not only academics, but also the underlying skills required for long-term independence and success.

Areas of Support

Each student’s programme is tailored across the following domains:

  1. Academic Support
  2. Language and Communication Development
  3. Behaviour and Emotional Regulation
  4. Social and Communication Development
  5. Executive Functioning and Learning Skills
  6. Functional and Life Skills

      Academic Support
Students follow the Cambridge Assessment International Education curriculum where appropriate, with adaptation and support based on their individual profile.

      Support may include:

      • Remedial instruction in English, Mathematics, and the Sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and ICT
      • Modified content and pacing
      • Pre-teaching and reinforcement of key concepts
      • Individual or small-group instruction

      Language and Communication Development
Language development underpins all areas of learning, particularly academic access.

Many students require targeted support in:

      • Understanding and using language for learning
      • Vocabulary development across subjects
      • Expressive and receptive language skills
      • Following instructions and processing information

This area directly supports academic progress, classroom participation, and independence.

      Behaviour and Emotional Regulation
For students who require support in this area, programmes include:

      • Structured behaviour support plans
      • Development of emotional regulation strategies
      • Consistent routines and clear expectations
      • Reinforcement systems to support positive behaviour

      Social and Communication Development
We support students in developing the skills needed to engage meaningfully with others:

      • Social interaction and relationship-building
      • Understanding social cues and expectations
      • Functional communication skills
      • Group participation

      Executive Functioning and Learning Skills
Many students benefit from targeted support in:

      • Attention and focus
      • Planning and organisation
      • Task initiation and completion
      • Flexible thinking and problem-solving

      Functional and Life Skills
      Where appropriate, programmes include:

      • Daily living skills
      • Independence and self-management
      • Organisation and task completion
      • Real-world application of skills

For older students, we incorporate the ASDAN framework, which supports the development of practical and vocational skills, with opportunities for certification.

ASDAN Programmes (Life Skills and Accreditation Pathway)

For older students and those working towards functional independence, we incorporate the ASDAN framework.

ASDAN is a curriculum and accreditation framework designed to develop life skills, independence, and practical competencies in a structured and measurable way.

It allows students to work towards recognised certification through completing meaningful, real-world tasks rather than traditional academic exams.

Within our centre, ASDAN programmes may include:

      • Communication and interpersonal skills
      • Independent living and daily functioning
      • Work-related and vocational skills
      • Personal development and goal setting
      • Community participation and practical learning experiences

ASDAN is particularly valuable for students who benefit from:

      • A more applied, hands-on learning approach
      • Reduced emphasis on traditional academic testing
      • Structured pathways towards adulthood and independence

The programme is fully individualised and aligned with each student’s developmental level and long-term goals.

      Levels of Support

Support is allocated based on each student’s individual profile and needs identified through our assessment process. This may be adjusted over time as students develop greater independence.

We currently offer two main support pathways:

      A. Full Support Placement

This pathway is designed for students who require high levels of consistent, structured support throughout the school day in order to access learning meaningfully.

      Students in this pathway typically:

      • Are not yet able to cope independently in a mainstream classroom setting
      • Require ongoing adult support for learning, behaviour, or regulation
      • Benefit from highly structured environments and predictable routines

      Support includes:

      • A dedicated learning support assistant (appointed by parents)
      • Ongoing supervision, guidance, and programme design from our centre team
      • Implementation of a fully individualised IEP across all school settings
      • Access to adapted academic instruction within the IMPACT Centre

      Students also receive:

      • Individual or small-group remedial support in core academic areas
      • Structured development of language, communication, and functional skills
      • Adaptive specials such as Physical Education, swimming, art, music, or ICT
      • Supported participation in mainstream classes where appropriate
The focus of this pathway is stabilisation, skill development, and gradual preparation for increased independence.

      B. Hybrid (Transitional) Support Placement

This pathway is designed for students who are able to access parts of the mainstream environment independently, but still require targeted support to fully succeed.

      Students in this pathway typically:

      • Participate primarily in mainstream classes
      • Experience difficulty in specific subjects, learning areas, or organisational demands
      • Benefit from structured intervention rather than full-time withdrawal support

      Support includes:

      • Targeted assistance in specific academic areas (e.g. English, Mathematics, Science)
      • A school-appointed learning support when required
      • Continued access to the Support Centre for intervention and skill-building
      • Ongoing assessment and adjustment of support levels through the IEP process

      Students may also receive:

      • Remedial instruction in identified areas of need
      • Support with executive functioning, organisation, and learning skills
      • Access to therapeutic collaboration where required
      • Optional participation in adapted activities based on individual need
The focus of this pathway is increasing independence, strengthening access to the mainstream curriculum, and reducing support over time where appropriate.
