BTEC guideline
BTEC programmes are practical, industry-oriented courses. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workspace situations, activities and demands. Administered by Pearson (U.K). BTEC is assessed internally by tutors giving assignments / coursework which needs to be done within a deadline. Assessments are externally audited by Pearsons International Standards Verifiers. They visit centers to audit standards and assessments to ensure consistency. BTEC courses offered at Key Stage 5 include Information Technology, Business, Sports and Creative Media.
To enter the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) Diploma Programme, a student must have at least 5 IGCSE grades at A*-G. BTEC is equivalent to 3 A Level subjects, providing both a broad foundation of Business Education and a firm basis for specialisation in a selected avenue of business activity. The course lasts two years and has 18 units where students are expected to take 3 units per term. The qualification is awarded by Edexcel International within the BTEC Brand, providing entry to higher education and employment. Qualifications are recognised in all major universities worldwide and some universities in Kenya.
