Clubs

Clubs run every Friday 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. and are free of charge. This programme is mandatory and runs within the school hours. The students get to explore and discover their interest and potential in other areas other than academics. This term we have come up with clubs that we can enjoy doing as we adherence to Covid 19 physical distancing regulations.

We have 10 clubs running currently these are:

  1. Mixed Media club: Mixed Media Club is a fun and active club that encourages the love of adventure, experimentation, and learning of new processes within the Arts. If you have a passion for creativity and wish to have the freedom of self-expression, then this is the perfect club for you! The club involves exploring and handling a variety of mediums and tools. We will also explore other applications of art such as photography and printmaking. Why not develop your own style of art and discover how amazing it can be working individually or in group activities.
  2. Tennis Comets club: We are a club that plays tennis to have fun, foster friendship and sharpen coordination skills and promote healthy competition as we observe the Covid 19 regulations – competition designed around participants’ commitment and desire to learn and excel in the sport.
  3. Gaming: The club basically will focus on the fundamentals of interactive computer game creation, the students will be able to learn about the design process for gaming, including the criteria and constraint identification, content research and its creation. There will be use of Minecraft, Roblox, Bionigma games. With students carrying out the gaming club, the ability helps and enables them to identify real world problems and solve them by aligning similar objects in a very accurate and intuitive way.
  4. Leo Club: Leo clubs are a youth organization of Lions Clubs International. Leo clubs encourage youth to develop leadership qualities by participating in service activities, focusing on three core values, leadership, experience and opportunity. Leos clubs around the world conduct various projects in seven key areas. Like the environment, health, hunger, disaster relief, vision and supporting youth. Leos can raise funds by conducting fundraising projects, and can also collaborate with other Leo clubs, sponsoring Lions clubs, or with outside organizations. As Leos clubs are sponsored by Lions International, many service events give youth and adults chances to work together and help serve the community.
  5. Soccer Club: This club promises to deliver great soccer drills providing a solid foundation to build players skills. The club will be executed through simple step-by-step instructions, routines, and practice. Drills are essential in soccer. They are the groundwork of every great play; they hone existing skills and get to the heart of any problem. Challenging and exciting, with the right attitude drills can also be a lot of fun. Foot Work Soccer Skills club will be a non-contact activities club aiming to give students great skills while remaining safe.
  6. Basketball: We are a club that plays tennis to have fun, foster friendship and sharpen coordination skills and promote healthy competition as we observe the Covid 19 regulations – competition designed around participants’ commitment and desire to learn and excel in the sport.
  7. Journalism and debate: The main aim of the journalism club is to inform, educate and entertain the student members of SON through informative and constructive activities. We liaise with other clubs with similar ambitions to share ideas and sharpen skills such as Public speaking, of its members. We have diverse activities carried out by the members including, news writing & reporting, photography, text-editing & presentation and graphics & design.
  8. First Aid Club: First aid club is part of training that aims to equip students with adequate knowledge in performing basic first aid. This includes essentials in a first - aid kit, basic bandaging and other things that concerns primary medical care. Members will benefit alot and will be able to come up with appropriate solutions to address the casualty and a good indicator if there's need to call for emergency service or not.
  9. Chess: At the School of the Nations, we have a vibrant Chess club that offers our students a perfect opportunity to stimulate the brilliant minds of these budding stars. The school has a FIDE-certified trainer and couch. Chess offers numerous benefits for school children, contributing to their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Cognitive Development: Chess is a highly strategic and complex game that requires critical thinking, problem-solving, and planning skills. Engaging in chess helps improve a child's concentration, memory, and analytical abilities. It stimulates their brain and enhances their overall cognitive functions. Academic Performance: Studies have shown that students who play chess tend to perform better academically. The skills developed through chess, such as logical reasoning and pattern recognition, can be applied to various subjects like mathematics, science, and language arts, etc.
  10. EA/MSMUN: Middle School Model United Nations (MSMUN) is a program that is designed for junior high school students. This program is an excellent platform for students to refine a number of skills including, debating, public speaking skills, journalistic talents, leadership skills and conflict resolution.

      Through the MUN club at school, learners are rigorously trained in research, writing resolutions, debating in parliamentary style and lobbying for support from other delegates. The activities of the club closely simulate the fast moving world of diplomacy using 21st Century learning skills and approaches.

    From Year 11 - 13

    President’s Award Kenya is a program aimed at recognizing achievements of young people between the age of 14-24 years. It aims to equip young people for life by encouraging them to acquire universal skills for them to thrive.

    The Award is structured in three levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold. However, the three levels share similar activities but in varying intensity where the gold participants put more commitment.

    There are four types of activities in the program, voluntary service, physical recreation activity, skills and adventurous journey. The Gold award is awarded to members upon successful completion of the three levels; Bronze, silver and Gold.

      Houses

      We have a house system currently grouped into two houses i.e. The Victors and the Warriors houses. The aim of this system is to foster a competitive spirit, leadership skills as well as team work through various events like sports galas, quiz days and, swimming galas.
